Privacy Policy
MD Worktree · Code IT Ltd. · In effect from 30 September 2026
MD Worktree does not collect your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your documents stay on your Mac.
In short. The app reads the folders you choose and nothing else. It sends nothing about you or your files to us or to anyone else. The one thing that can reach the internet is an optional setting for showing pictures from the web, described below.
What the app accesses
MD Worktree is a sandboxed Mac app. It can only open a folder after you choose it, and macOS remembers that permission in a small bookmark kept on your Mac. The app reads the Markdown in those folders to show it, edit it and search it. The project list, your settings and the version history of your documents are stored on your Mac, in the app's own container. None of it is uploaded, and we have no server to upload it to.
The app can also add your documents to Spotlight, the search built into macOS, so that you can find them from there. That index is kept by macOS on your Mac.
The internet
The app makes no network requests of its own. It shows your documents in a web view, and macOS requires an app's web view to hold the network permission even when everything it shows comes from the app itself. That is the only reason the app has it.
One setting can change this: Load pictures from the web, set separately for each project and off by default. When you turn it on, the preview fetches the pictures that a document refers to by web address. Those requests go to the servers named in the document, which can see your IP address and which picture was asked for. No part of your document is sent with them.
Purchases
MD Worktree is free to download. MD Worktree Pro and the 14-day trial are purchases made through the App Store. Apple takes the payment and keeps your payment details and your Apple Account; we never see them. Apple gives us reports of sales, which do not identify you. The app asks the App Store, on your Mac, which purchases you have made, so that it knows whether to unlock Pro.
On-device intelligence
Some optional features use Apple's on-device models on Macs that support them. The text they work on is processed on your Mac. The app does not send it to us.
Crash reports
We do not collect crash reports or diagnostics ourselves. If you have chosen in macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us anonymised crash logs, which we use only to fix problems.
If you contact us
If you email hello@alteringtechnologies.com we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and to fix what you reported, and we keep it only as long as that takes. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and shows no advertising. Its pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads. Like any web server, the one that serves this site may keep standard access logs, such as the time and the page requested.
Children
MD Worktree is not aimed at children. Since it collects no personal data from anyone, there is nothing it collects from them either.
Your rights
Because the app collects no personal data, there is nothing in it for us to show, correct or delete. For anything we hold because you wrote to us, you can ask to see it, correct it or have it deleted by emailing hello@alteringtechnologies.com. If you are in the UK or the EU you can also complain to your data protection authority, in the UK the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
If the app or this policy changes in a way that matters to your privacy, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
